Beer tasting road trip! Yippee!

OK… I know this is incredibly short notice but we are taking tonight’s (Thursday) beer tasting on the road to Buzzards Bay Brewing in Westport. Owner Bill Russell and his gang have “Lager Education Night” every Thursday from 5 to 7 PM. They have 2 grills to cook on (bring your own grillables)…picnic tables…cornhole…farmboy golf…and you get 2 pints of either their 10th Anniversary Ale or Gold Medal Lager as well as the pint glass for 5 bucks! They also give a brief tour of the brewery. Megan and I went earlier this summer and its lots of fun. I know a few of you expressed interest a few weeks back and I had hoped to give you more notice but we’re rapidly running outta Summer and tonight’s weather should be perfect so I hope a few of you can join us. There is more info as well as directions on their website at (buzzardsbrew.com).

Staying on the topic of beers we have a boatload of Oktoberfests/Pumpkin/Autumn beers that have just arrived. I don’t know about you but my favorite season as a whole, and definitely my favorite beer season is the fall. The nights getting cooler…the leaves changing colors …and yummy fall beers to drink. We have a huge display in the front of the store, and as you know, some are in and out quickly. So be sure to get here early before your favorite is all gone. Here is a sampling of what we have in so far.

Dogfish Head Punkin… Wachusett Octoberfest …Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale…Saranac Octoberfest and Pumkin…Poast Poad Pumpkin…Erdinger Oktoberfest…Jacks Pumkin Spice…Paulener Oktoberfest…Smuttynose Pumpkin…Brooklyn Oktoberfest…Blue Moon Harvest Ale… Southampton Pumpkin, and Southern Tier Pumpking which come in the 22 oz size.

We do have a wine tasting this Friday night from 4 to 7 PM. Our friend Jeff from…who is he with this week?...oh yea Sun Wholesale will be here with a very impressive lineup of wines. We will start with Hunter’s Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Typical Marlborough style (which is my favorite) bursting with citrus and this 1almost has a pink grapefruit finish. From there we head to the Willamette Valley in Oregon for the outstanding wines from Belle Vallee Cellars. Next is a great alternative to those watered down Pinot Grigios out there called Belle Vallee Pinot Gris. Same grape… just more color, body and most of all… flavor! Next we have 2 different style Pinot Noirs, Whole Cluster Pinot Noir and their award winning and highly rated Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Last but not least a red blend called Southern Oregon Red.

The Patriots play their only preseason game that matters and that Brady will play in Friday night so stop by before the game…try some wine… pick up a 6-pack of your favorite fall beer and get that DVR set to tape the Olympics and the Pats (sorry Redsox we’ll get back to you when the Olympics are over) and get ready to enjoy 1 of the last weekends of the Summer. Just a quick reminder we have 2 wine tastings and 1 beer tasting next week (corksfinewine.com for more info) as we gear up for Labor Day and the big golf tournament. The big Kick-off beer tasting is September 13th and we’re leaning towards November 7th for the Holiday Wine tasting. Yikes summer isn’t even over and I have us getting ready for Christmas…see what fall beers do to me?

Robert
